- Focus on performance element, not just about end result. Graphic approach, simple ideas, simple are the best.
- Use mundane objects, giving them new life, unexpected. Humour.
- Most proud of? The big inflatables because client fulfilled vision.
- Left and worked for different companies after uni. Both learnt different skills; one computer based, other more hands on with building. Had to go along with style of studio, enjoyed but was excited to do own work.
- Worked in own time on personal stuff, which developed into bigger projects.
- Kept in contact, similar way of thinking, left uni and did projects outside of work.
- ‘Can tell a bigger story with kinetics sometimes’ connects to the audience.
- For a project that was difficult - very ambitious, trial and error, set design makes every job very different, can’t have expectations of live result.
- Spent time building a portfolio, client based. No urgency to leave, enjoyed the jobs. Eventually made enough to leave.
- Working 3 months ahead, e.g. christmas stuff done by October.
- Play in studio then found home for it. Documents ideas for when the right person comes along.

- overall tone of positivity is refreshing, playful nature. Creative energy. Impacted work - playful tones, about the ideas, light hearted, not polished. Acceptance of it not looking perfect.
- Inspirations: Rafael Rozendaal makes art using internet. Max Siedentopf. 44 flavours. Karl Toomy https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8hwwHe-05mg Its Nice That - shaped work to lead to getting job at Its Nice That. As student was inspired by colour, set design, playful, positive work that make people happy.
- Would approach the project by keeping the design lo-fi and raw like the film.
- At uni always pushed against the conventional, so tutors never liked it.
- Understand what client wants and trust instincts. Sometimes have to gain trust to show the ideas are worth putting into.
- Theres always bit of projects that you dislike, you have to take what you can from it and focus on the positives.
Dan Eatock
- Doesn’t like films because doesn’t feel apart of it. Not as much interpretation required in comparison something such as a novel as everything is already given.
- Compares film to fire, waiting for it to change.
- For screening; should think about timing, e.g. at night?
How do these interviews help you form an idea of your future in the creative industry?
